March 9, 2009 (FinancialWire) -- The pilots of Alaska Air Group's (NYSE: ALK) Alaska Airlines unit, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l, said have reached an "Agreement in Concept" with carrier's management on a new, four-year contract.

ALPA said that details of the agreement are being withheld until "the full language is reached and the Union's leadership votes to approve it as a tentative agreement."

The union said that a tentative agreement must be approved by a majority vote of the pilot group before it can become the new pilots' contract.

Alaska Airlines pilots have been working to negotiate a new contract since January of 2007. ALPA represents 52,250 pilots at 35 airlines in the U.S. and Canada, among them the 1,500 pilots of Alaska Airlines, including sixty currently on furlough.

Seattle-based Alaska Air Group owns Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, which together serve more than ninety cities through a network in Alaska, the Lower 48, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.
