Aurora Imaging Technology and Leading Breast Radiologists Establish Groundbreaking Aurora(R) Breast MRI Society
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.--As manufacturer of the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared MRI system specifically designed for breast imaging, Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. has taken the lead on supporting breast radiologists and advancing the role of dedicated breast MRI by forming the Aurora(R) Breast MRI Society - a group of healthcare professionals dedicated to diagnosing breast cancer earlier and evaluating breast disease, utilizing the most advanced breast imaging modality available.
"The genesis of our company was built around advancing MRI's application for breast imaging as a means to earlier detection of breast cancer and better management of breast disease treatment protocols," said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and CEO, Aurora. "In working closely with the breast radiologists who utilize our system, we recognized they shared our mission with the same zeal. Together, as founding members of the Aurora Breast MRI Society, we are a united voice in making dedicated breast MRI available to all women through advocacy and education."
Kamilia F. Kozlowski, M.D., medical director/CEO and clinical breast radiologist at the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center in Knoxville, Tenn., is the first president of the Society. "I am thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking effort that will serve as a backdrop to share ideas, information, protocols and research, among other things, about breast radiology. By creating a forum for the exchange of clinical information, the Aurora Breast MRI Society envisions advancing the use of this cutting-edge technology to reduce the morbidity and mortality of breast cancer in women."
The mission of the Aurora Breast MRI Society is to further spur and expand the clinical role of breast MRI, as well as educate the medical profession, public and healthcare industry about the vital role of breast MRI in earlier detection and more effective evaluation of breast disease.
The Society's objectives include:
1. Provide a forum for the exchange of clinical information and experience worldwide on use of the Aurora Dedicated Breast MRI system;
2. Be a thought leader in breast MRI through ongoing research and a continuing commitment to enhancing breast cancer diagnosis;
3. Set the standards for state-of-the-art breast MRI in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and, in conjunction with other professional organizations, establish protocols and "best-practices" guidelines;
4. Educate physicians and other health professionals regarding the optimal role of the Aurora Dedicated Breast MRI system;
5. Establish outreach, patient advocacy and clinical-advisor partnerships with consumer organizations designed to advance the role of breast MRI; and
6. Generate outcome-driven studies to support the clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness of a breast imaging system in breast cancer diagnosis and breast disease evaluation.
