LINCOLN – Recently, Governor Pete Ricketts visited fire departments in Fremont, O’Neill, and Spencer to recognize firefighters and first responders for their heroism during the historic floods of 2019. Each fire department performed rescues that saved lives in the aftermath of the floods. The fire departments were selected to receive the Governor’s Flood Heroes award after being nominated by fellow Nebraskans.
In December, the Governor and First Lady hosted a ceremony at the State Capitol to honor individuals and groups that had saved lives during the floods of 2019. Some fire departments were unable to attend that event. Over the past month, the Governor has been traveling to those fire departments to thank them and to present their Flood Heroes awards. Earlier in the year, the Governor visited Chapman, Wood River, and Pleasanton to recognize fire departments in those communities.
