Reem Aburukba, a first-year J.D. candidate at the University of Michigan Law School, won the grand prize with her dedication to public service.

Each year, the firm awards a scholarship to undergraduate and law students who either show a commitment to pursuing personal injury law or demonstrate a passion for public service. Aburukba, who recently begun her law school career at the University of Michigan Law School, is last year’s winner.

The firm chose Aburukba for her enthusiastic commitment to community service and academic excellence. She finished third in her high school class of 600 students, graduated with honors from the University of Michigan and co-founded Sunny, an organization that works with foster homes in the Detroit area. She hopes to use to her law degree to help immigrants seek legal pathways to citizenship.

“I plan to use the scholarship towards my tuition to reduce law school debt,” Aburukba said. “I am hopeful that this scholarship will help me begin a career in public interest law so that I can focus on improving the lives of others.”
