TDCI Announces Remote/Online Testing for Prospective Insurance Producers Begins May 21

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) announces that Tennesseans seeking certification as insurance producers can now take their insurance exams remotely.

Starting Friday, May 21, 2021, exams for prospective insurance producers can be taken at home, at the office or any secure location via TDCI’s third-party testing partner Pearson VUE in addition to ongoing in-person testing at locations across Tennessee. Exams can scheduled starting May 20, 2021.

TDCI’s efforts to help launch online, proctored insurance producer exams supports the agency’s work to strengthen the insurance industry while continuing to fulfill Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order No. 1 to provide more opportunities to Tennessee’s rural counties.

“In the past, prospective insurance producers had to spend time and money traveling to testing centers, which could be an expensive and time-consuming task for rural citizens,” said TDCI Assistant Commissioner Bill Huddleston. “Remote testing creates easier access, greater convenience and increased opportunity for economic prosperity for prospective insurance producers while ensuring they meet the professional standards that consumers expect.”

The insurance industry continues to be a vital part of Tennessee’s economy. TDCI’s Division of Insurance regulates approximately 1,917 insurance companies, 1,367 related entities and over 232,000 insurance producers. In 2020, $45.1 billion in premium volume was written in Tennessee by these insurance companies, making Tennessee No. 16 in the nation for premium volume, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
