Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Suspends All Meetings for the Next Two Weeks

St. Paul, Minnesota — The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (Commission) has suspended all public meetings from March 16, 2020 through March 27, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This suspension notification applies to all upcoming Agenda Meetings, Planning Meetings, Public Hearings, and Public Meetings scheduled in Saint Paul and across Minnesota.

The upcoming meetings that will be affected are the:

• Public Hearing for the route permit application related to the Lake Eunice Substation Conversion

Project scheduled for March 18, 2020.

• Agenda and Planning Meetings scheduled for March 19, 2020.

• Regular Planning Meeting scheduled for March 24, 2020.

• Public Information and Scoping Meeting related to the Plum Creek Wind Farm scheduled for

March 25, 2020.

• Agenda and Planning Meetings scheduled for March 26, 2020.

• Public Hearings for the Buffalo Ridge Wind Project scheduled for March 26, 2020.

“The health of the public is our top concern, and the Commission is following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Minnesota Department of Health to limit public gatherings in order to slow the spread of the virus,” said Katie Sieben, Commission Chair. “The public has a right to weigh in on the important issues the Commission considers, and so we are temporarily suspending meetings until steps can be taken to ensure the public can safely participate.”

Should any issues under the Commission’s regulatory authority arise in conjunction with the COVID-19 pandemic, it will use its statutory authority to call an Emergency Meeting to consider those matters. Any Emergency Meeting would be noticed and open to the public.

All open comment periods will remain open. Some comment periods may be extended in order to incorporate future rescheduled public meetings or hearings. Members of the public are encouraged to continue filing comments though the methods outlined on the Commission’s Comment page at https://mn.gov/puc/consumers/speak-up/public-comments.jsp.

The Commission will assess when best to reschedule the suspended meetings and hearings taking into account the fluid conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
