House Democrats Pass Legislation to Protect Dreamers and Those with TPS and DED
This week, I was proud that the House passed legislation to protect Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status. After years of House Republicans refusing to take action, House Democrats passed the American Dream and Promise Act this week to provide Dreamers and those with TPS and DED with a pathway to citizenship and the certainty they can remain here in the U.S. and continue to contribute to our economy and our nation’s future. I urge Senator McConnell to bring this legislation to the Senate Floor for consideration, swiftly pass it, and send it to the President’s desk for his signature.
I continue to be deeply troubled by the Trump Administration’s refusal to cooperate with Congress as we work to conduct oversight. In its unwillingness to cooperate, the Trump Administration is engaged in the biggest cover-up in history. On Tuesday, the House will consider a resolution to force Attorney General Barr and former White House Counsel McGahn to comply with Congressional subpoenas issued by the House Judiciary Committee. The resolution also authorizes House Chairs to go before a federal judge and seek enforcement of subpoenas if they are ignored. We have already seen the courts side with Congress, and we’ll continue to pursue the facts on behalf of the American people. We will follow the facts where ever they lead.
In addition to this resolution, the House will begin consideration of legislation to fund the government next week. It is my intention to pass all 12 of the funding bills by the end of this month. The House is hard at work to fund the government on time and avoid another Trump shutdown, which harmed our economy and our people.
