Hospital Sisters Health System Uses New SMART® on FHIR® Technology Standard with Epic® and SeamlessMD to Streamline Care

New FHIR Technology makes Patient Engagement, Care Management, and Artificial Intelligence accessible through modern, interoperable technologies

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, USA, December 7, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) announced its first-ever integration using the new SMART® platform and HL7® FHIR® standard with Epic and SeamlessMD to deliver a unified experience for patient engagement. Starting with the Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, the health system is using SeamlessMD within the EpicCare environment to deliver patient engagement, enable care management, and leverage artificial intelligence to improve patient outcomes.

Since 2017, Prairie Heart Institute has used SeamlessMD’s platform to engage patients throughout their care, monitor patients to catch complications earlier and improve clinical outcomes through analytics and artificial intelligence. By delivering the right care, to the right patient, at the right time, Prairie Heart Institute has leveraged SeamlessMD to significantly reduce length of stay and 30-day readmissions.

Now, HSHS and Prairie Heart Institute has built on this success by going live with a SeamlessMD integration with Epic using SMART® on FHIR®. By working with SeamlessMD, available now in Epic’s App Orchard program, HSHS was able to complete an integration with SeamlessMD much more quickly than traditional integration methods. This integration will allow HSHS providers to enroll, receive alerts and monitor patients on SeamlessMD without leaving the EHR, thereby streamlining provider workflows and allowing providers to address patient needs more quickly.

“SeamlessMD has been an instrumental partner in helping us connect with our patients,” said Jeffrey Suzewits, chief medical information officer for the HSHS Central Illinois Division. “The integration of Epic® and SeamlessMD is an exciting milestone as we continue to innovate and better serve patients in our communities.”

Kristin Doster, vice president of cardiovascular services at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, adds, “Our patients are happier, less anxious, and feel far more connected to our care team throughout their journey. As an integrated solution, SeamlessMD works synergistically with our existing Epic infrastructure to streamline our workflow, leading to improved staff and patient satisfaction."

Joshua Liu, MD, SeamlessMD’s CEO, agreed that patients and providers benefit greatly from this integration. “HSHS and Prairie Heart Institute continue to be international leaders and innovators in patient care. We are excited to further support HSHS and Prairie Heart Institute in their mission for excellence in patient care.”
