Luanda, ANGOLA, November 22 - The chairman of the Association of Support for Former FAPLA Combatants (ASCOFA), António Fernando (Samora) was dismissed Thursday from the post over alleged embezzlement of funds during 17 years at the helm of the Association. ,

In a press release delivered during a ceremony held at Ascofa headquarters, Samora was also accused of various crimes.

The offences include misappropriation of assets that belongs to the Institute of Social Reintegration of Ex-military (IRSEM), the presentation of fake documents and insertion of statistical data of members of the said group.

The accusations also include the failure to present reports on the payment of quotas since the creation of Ascofa and creation of Association’s fake bank accounts.

He was also charged with misappropriating the budget from the Ministry of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland designed to pay the former military personnel.

Antonio Fernando "Samora" was also accused of misappropriation of  seven vehicles designed to support his members, distribution of residences to people close to him in a housing project arranged for the members as well as  diversion of the vehicles for taxi cooperative service, allegedly sold in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The document also mentions six tonnes of various food product, AKz 80 million that would be used to purchase agriculture and industry kits as well as  inappropriate display of ranks of brigadier, as being among the accusations.
