Dragonfly Capital Partners Unveils $100 Million Inaugural Fund for Cryptocurrencies, Bridges Gap between East and West

Founded by early crypto venture capitalist Alexander Pack and veteran Bo Feng, new fund brings together the largest global crypto companies and top investors from Asia and the United States

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dragonfly Capital Partners, a new venture fund offering investors a single, diversified access point to cryptoassets, today announced the launch of the firm’s first $100 million fund dedicated to cryptocurrency investments. The founding team is led by managing partners Alexander Pack, a young cryptocurrency venture capitalist who previously managed crypto and fund investing for Bain Capital Ventures, and Bo Feng, a venture capital veteran with more than 20 years of experience and founding partner of Ceyuan Ventures. Dragonfly has identified a market opportunity to bridge the gap between East and West in the crypto economy, investing in and bringing together the industry’s leading participants across geography and asset type.

The fund’s distinctive investment strategy is based on Pack’s experience leading cryptocurrency and fund investments across the globe and Feng’s successful track record of launching and managing multi-billion-dollar VC funds. Dragonfly invests in three types of assets: crypto-native funds that are poised to become the next great asset management dynasties for the cryptoasset class, protocols and applications that will be the foundation of the decentralized economy, and pick-and-shovel tech startups building bridges between the decentralized and centralized worlds.

“Throughout our years of investing in crypto at our respective VC firms we realized how difficult it is for incumbent investment firms to participate in this tech trend. The issue is that crypto is not just a new technology but a new tech-driven asset class, something we haven’t witnessed in decades,” said Pack. “A new asset class calls for a new breed of asset manager. That’s why we launched a crypto-dedicated fund and why we invest in other cryptofunds.”

“I see a parallel between the Internet boom in the ‘90s and the current cryptocurrency market opportunity,” said Feng, who was one of the first venture investors in the Internet. “The crypto revolution may be even bigger than the Internet and more global. We take an ecosystem approach, investing in fund managers around the world and connecting the top technologists from the West to the largest crypto companies and user bases in Asia.”

Dragonfly’s investors include some of the most prominent global blockchain companies, such as OKEx, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, and the mining company Bitmain, the largest blockchain company in the world.

Dragonfly has attracted top technology founders and investors from across the U.S. and Asia. Top U.S. investors include Salil Deshpande (Bain Capital Ventures), Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon (A16Z), Cyan Banister (Founders Fund) and Olaf Carlson-Wee (Polychain Capital). Top Asian tech investors include Neil Shen (head of Sequoia China), Eric Xu (founder of Baidu), Bob Xiaoping Xu (founding partner of Zhenfund), Zhang Tao (chairman and founder of Meituan-Danping), Bao Fan (founder and CEO of China Renaissance Bank), Cai Wensheng (founder and chairman of Meitu), Justin Tang (founder and CEO of X Financial, eLong), JP Gan (Qiming Venture Partners), and Annie Xu (head and general manager of Alibaba U.S.).

Dragonfly launches with an active portfolio of over 20 investments, including leading tech-driven cryptofunds and asset managers, decentralized financial infrastructure (such as the price-stable cryptocurrency Basis), and foundational protocols (such as Spacemesh and Oasis Labs).
