UN recognizes transparency in Angolan governance

The official, who was addressing a lecture on the “Role of Ombudsman,” in the defense of the rights, freedoms and citizens’ constitutional guarantees, said Angola is betting on decentralization of the power, which will enable greater government closeness to the civil society.
He also lauded the policies being undertaken, aimed to eradicate poverty and inequalities.
To him, the proximity of the Ombudsman Office to the people can work as a social diagnose to other state-owned public institution.
On the occasion, Angola’s Ombudsman, Carlos Alberto Ferreira Pinto, stated that under the country’s constitution, the Ombudsman Office is a public and independent institution, whose goal is to defend the rights and freedoms of the citizens.
The Ombudsman Office jointly with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), run a lecture programme,which covers several Angolan higher education institutions such as Catholic, Lusíadas and Medodista universities, among others.
