MENTAL HEALTH WATCHDOG GROUP EXPOSES LINK BETWEEN SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AND PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS THAT CAUSE VIOLENCE AND SUICIDE

The link between antidepressants and violence, including suicide and homicide, is well established.””

WASHINGTON DC, UNITED STATES, May 23, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In the wake of school shootings, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) released a new report Psychiatric Drugs Create Violence & Suicide: School Shootings & Other Acts of Senseless Violence, and has further drawn interest to the issue through its CCHR travelling human rights exhibit and public protests in key locations.

CCHR’s travelling human rights exhibit is touring major U.S. cities including recent stops in Washington, DC, and New York. Hundreds of CCHR members took to the street of New York and loudly protested at the American Psychiatric Association’s annual convention about the prescribing of strong psychiatric drugs to children and other abuses.

In Washington, DC, CCHR’s travelling exhibit was held opposite the 2018 annual convention of the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD) to expose the unscientific diagnosis of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and subsequent improper drugging of youth, as well as other abuses.

A CCHR documentary film was screened at the exhibit that includes information on newly appointed APSARD President Dr. Joseph L. Biederman, who was elected despite censure by Harvard Medical School for violating conflicts of interest rules in relation to his receipt $1.6 in pharmaceutical company funds as a consultant. In 2011, a Senate Judiciary Committee had questioned Biederman and brought to light that while receiving fees from pharmaceutical manufacturers, Biederman yet purported to be “unbiased” in his research related to their drugs. Subsequently he was censured for this. (www.cchr.org/videos/diagnostic-statistical-manual.html).

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported in its Adverse Event Reporting System (MedWatch) that suicidal ideation, depression, aggression anxiety and abnormal behavior are amongst the top 10 adverse reactions to ADHD drugs and stimulants.

CCHR has produced a number of meticulously researched documentary films on human rights abuses in the field of psychiatry that can be seen on www.cchr.org and www.scientology.tv.

CCHR is a mental health industry watchdog organization working to protect patients’ rights and encouraging the public to take action against mental health abuse. Established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Dr. Thomas Szasz, renowned author and professor of psychiatry at the State University of New York, CCHR has helped get more than 180 laws enacted worldwide, including informed consent laws and the first ban on ECT use in children in California in 1976. Widespread recognition of its work includes a U.S. House of Representatives Resolution highly commending CCHR “for securing numerous reforms around the world, safeguarding others from abuses in the mental health system and ensuring legal protections are afforded them.”
