Brett H. Pritchard Announces Support for Texas Child Protective Services Reform
In an online statement, The Law Office of Brett H. Pritchard called for a comprehensive review and overhaul of the Texas Child Protective Service system.
KILLEEN, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, April 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In an online statement, The Law Office of Brett H. Pritchard today announced support for a major overhaul of the Texas Child Protective Services (CPS). The firm has been serving the community of Killeen Texas for more than 18 years and has a great deal of experience in family law cases dealing with CPS. Brett H. Pritchard, the lead attorney at the firm, believes the service does an admirable job under its current mandate, but reforms are desperately needed.
Pritchard notes that the majority of cases in which CPS remove children from the family home include one or more false claims about abuse or neglect. In many cases, children are taken away from their parents prematurely, causing unnecessary and permanent psychological harm. Removal of a child from their family environment should only happen as a last resort once all other options have been exhausted. Even when it is necessary, every effort should be made to reunite the family as soon as conceivable.
There are several tools that can be implemented to improve the role of the CPS according to Brett H. Pritchard. He believes family and individual counseling is a good starting point and that this should happen while the children remain in the home if possible. If it does become necessary to remove a child from the family home, they should be placed in the care of other family members whenever it’s a viable option. Foster care should only be considered as a last resort.
