South Africa to increase cooperation with Angola

Luanda, ANGOLA, March 2 - The Republic of South Africa will continue to work to increase cooperation with Angola at "higher levels," President Cyril Ramaphosa said Wednesday in Luanda after a four-hour visit to Angola with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço.,

At a press conference held at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, he said that some areas of cooperation will be intensified for the economic development of both countries, while new sectors will be identified so that South African investment can be applied in Angola and vice versa.

Cyril Ramaphosa also said that both countries continue to work to develop "excellent" bilateral cooperation in the areas of tourism, infrastructure, trade, energy, mines, agriculture and others.

Angola and South Africa are the largest economies and military powers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The two countries have legal instruments, among others, a General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical-Cultural Cooperation signed in April 1998 and an Agreement for the Establishment of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission, initialed in November 2000.

Bilateral relations were strengthened last November in South Africa, during the first state visit of João Lourenço, with the signing of several agreements, especially the suppression of visas in ordinary passports.
