Gazprom Neft has used the occasion of the Russian Investment Forum, Sochi, to conclude a range of agreements directed at expanding the geographic range over which the company supplies its bitumen products, signing agreements with the Rostov Oblast, the Krasnodarsky Krai and the Primorsky Krai.
These agreements provide for the companies to cooperate in meeting demand for Gazprom Neft’s high-technology bitumens and bitumen-derivative products used in the construction and reconstruction of roads and local housing and utilities infrastructure, throughout Russia’s regions. Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, operator of the company’s bitumens business, produces a wide range of high-quality bitumen products, proactively implementing the latest Russian and international technologies in production. The company’s product range has no domestic competitors and is a viable alternative to goods from international producers.
Research and development, together with laboratory testing, of bitumen binders and bitumen concrete mixes, is also planned at the Gazprom Neft Science and Technology Centre, the largest such specialist facility in Russia, based in the company’s own production facility in Ryazan. Using the unique and high-tech equipment of the Science and Technology Centre, actual operational conditions on federal and regional highways will be modelled, taking high traffic and the impacts on road surfaces into account. As a result of this research, optimum formulations of asphalt-concrete mixes will be developed, including using locally sourced aggregates (sand, hardcore) adapted to the climatic conditions of each region and to intensive traffic loads, including freight traffic.
A key area of focus in cooperating with regional governments will involve the construction of experimental road sections and the application of Gazprom Neft’s innovative polymer-modified binders. The outcomes of monitoring the coverings on such sections will be used in joint research and development activities and in controlling the quality of bitumen materials and asphalt mixes used in each specific region. Analysis of the performance of experimental road sections built using Gazprom Neft bitumen product, will demonstrate the advantages and effectiveness of their use on highways subject to high traffic loads and challenging climatic conditions.
Alexander Dyukov, CEO, Gazprom Neft, and Chairman of the Management Board, commented: “In developing its high-technology bitumens business, Gazprom Neft is the first company in Russia to use a scientific approach to the production and subsequent application of bitumens in creating an effective solution in road construction. I am certain that technology, combined with the development of individual formulations in line with climatic conditions and highways’ specific operating conditions in each individual region, will allow us to significantly improve the quality and durability of Russian roads.”
