According to the Brazilian press, the Federal Prosecution Office pointed to Kangamba as the main financier of the alleged criminal network, arguing that it operated between Brazil, Angola, South Africa and Portugal in international trafficking of women, making the victims prostitute themselves in exchange for payments between 10.000 and 100.000 dollars.
In the verdict of 12 January, which could be appealed to the Federal Regional Court, Judge Márcio Assad Guardia states that the Federal Public Prosecution Office has provided few testimonies on alleged victims, who in turn denied the information presented by the prosecution.
The prosecution admitted admitted that the Brazilian nationals freely chose to have sex in exchange for payments of trips.
"We were relieved by the fact that the accused were found not guilty, also with the recognition by the judiciary that no crime was committed by the accused, the recognition that the accusations were false, slanderous and without any factual basis (...)” said the lawyer.
The case was later cited in investigations against the Angolan businessman by the Public Prosecution Office.
After almost six years of proceedings, lawyer Eduardo Lemos de Morais contests the way the case was conducted by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, which claims to have been "at least irresponsible" in raising "frivolous charges."
