Luanda citizens told to get ready for local elections

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 9 - The holding of the first local elections demands the improvement of the organisational levels of the MPLA party’s intermediate structures in the capital, Luanda, said last Friday in this city the general secretary of the ruling party, António Paulo Kassoma. ,

Paulo Kassoma was speaking at the Fourth Provincial Extraordinary Conference of the MPLA Provincial Committee, which elected Adriano Mendes de Carvalho to be the party’s head (first secretary) in Luanda, in replacement of Francisco Higino Lopes Carneiro, who is now the Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (Angolan Parliament).

 

António Paulo Kassoma – who is the MPLA Politburo co-ordinator of the party’s monitoring group for Luanda – said that this preparedness must be promoted in the whole province.    

 

According to the ruling party’s general secretary, the government is preparing a new plan for Luanda, in the ambit of a new vision of governance which focuses on taking services closer to the citizens.

 

He went on to say that the new plan “will be an important pact that will lead us to the gradual implementation of the local governments (...)”.

 

On the occasion the elected MPLA First Secretary for the Luanda Committee, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho – who is also the governor of the province –thanked the trust placed on him by the party members and appealed for unity.

 

He expressed his willingness to give the best of himself to face the challenges that the party will face in the coming times.
