People considering permanent makeup want know, is it safe?

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 3, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The answer is yes.

Mahnaz Bahaelou, owner of Elite Permanent Makeup in LA, said people do need to know a few things about the process before they have it done.

1) It is the same basic process as a tattoo. Ms. Bahaelou said the biggest different is the size of the needle and the depth into the skin where the ink is set. This kind of cosmetic tattooing does not penetrate as deeply as a traditional tat.

2) Check the salon where the work will be done. “You are looking at the hygiene. How do they sterilize their instruments. Where did the staff receive training? Where do they get their tools and inks?” she said. “These things matter.”

3) Infections are very rare but do happen. That is the same with any surgical procedure. Permanent makeup is technically a surgical procedure since the skin is penetrated. “If you get a splinter in your finger and remove it, technically that too is a surgical procedure,” Ms. Bahaelou said, providing an example. “Removing a splinter can be more invasive that permanent makeup If you get permanent makeup, closely follow the directions and instructions you are given upon leaving the salon.”

4) Allergic reactions are equally rare, but can happen. “Fortunately, you can have a simple test to find out if you are allergic to the inks used in the process". Ms. Bahaelou said the very rare reactions are usually noticed within a few days. The four week waiting period is done to make absolutely sure there’s no chance of a reaction.

5) Does it hurt? It can. Some people say it is just uncomfortable. Others can get by with over-the-counter pain medications. A few people, Ms. Bahaelou said, need a light topical anesthetic during the procedure.

“Once the process starts, if the pain gets bad enough, tell the technician. The process can be stopped and you can get pain relief,” she said.
