Art Show Highlighting Work By WI Veterans Set For May 23

"Through the Eyes of a Soldier" is a one night event celebrating Wisconsin veterans. The art show features original pieces created by local veterans.

APPLETON, WI, UNITED STATES, May 11, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- After months of planning and preparation, "Through the Eyes of a Soldier" is ready for its public debut. The art show highlights work created by local military veterans and is a joint collaboration of the Fox Valley Veterans Council, Hooper Law Office, LLC, and Fox Valley Technical College.

The Open House & Art Tour will be held at Hooper Law Office and Fox Valley Veterans Council, located at 2 N. Systems Dr. Appleton, WI, on Tuesday, May 23, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with remarks scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The event features local celebrity judges and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

"Through the Eyes of a Soldier" will primarily feature artwork from Wisconsin veterans, but additional pieces and memorabilia have been added to the show. One very special piece that will be shown for the first time has been in the works for five years. It is a series of eight flags, which have the name and date of death of each of the nearly 7,000 soldiers who have been killed in the wars from Afghanistan on. This piece was created by a local civilian who has been tracking the deaths of these soldiers. He created these flags in memory of their sacrifice.

The evening is part open house and part art show. "This event really grew out of an idea we had to display veteran-created artwork in our newly renovated conference room because we do so much unique planning for veterans. We found so much more than we were expecting. There are groups dedicated to helping veterans work through trauma and PTSD using art, there are collections of art specifically by veterans exhibited by local museums, and there are programs at colleges like FVTC where they have veterans demonstrating their perspective through unique art pieces. We thought the open house would be a wonderful opportunity to showcase more veteran's works," explained Sarah Kons, a partner with Hooper Law Office (www.hooperlawoffice.com).

The show will feature a variety of different types of art and art media from painting and sculpture to photographs, metal work, and more. Together with the Fox Valley Veterans Council, Hooper Law Office, hopes the show helps the community become more aware of local veterans and their contributions to art.
