New President and Governing Council introduced at the 95th Annual General Meeting of Ontario Engineering Regulator
TORONTO, April 24, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the licensing and regulating body for professional engineers and engineering in the province, installed Bob Dony, PhD, P.Eng., FIEE, FEC, as its 98th president during its annual general meeting (AGM) at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, Ont. on April 22.
Dr. Dony has a long history of volunteer leadership within PEO and the engineering community. He has served as PEO vice president and councillor-at-large, and is a past chair of both PEO’s Academic Requirements and Legislation committees. He also represents PEO on Engineers Canada’s Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. As an associate professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Guelph, Dr. Dony is passionate about building a stronger profession for the next generation of engineers.
At its annual general meeting, PEO also introduced its council for the 2017-2018 term. The six women and 19 men on the new council will govern PEO’s 85,000 licence and certificate holders and regulate professional engineering in Ontario to serve and protect the public.
The new leadership group includes province-wide representation from a wide array of sectors, including the business community, industry, academe, and government. The composition and operation of council is dictated by Regulation 941 under the Professional Engineers Act. Most councillors are elected by PEO's licence holders. Currently, eight councillors are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, three of whom are not professional engineers.
