In response to the publication of the Government's white paper on the Great Repeal Bill, FDF Chief Scientific Officer Helen Munday said:

“We welcome the publication of the Great Repeal Bill and look forward to learning more about Government's plans to transition the EU's legal framework to the UK. From a regulatory position, our main priority following our exiting the EU will be to maintain consumer confidence levels, ensuring our food is as protected as it was when we were members.

“Around 95% of UK food law is in the form of EU regulations and these regulations cover every step of the supply chain, from ingredients through to the distribution of products.

“We expect that Government will determine what parts of the legislation we keep in order to guarantee the competitiveness of the food and drink industry. This legislation must also ensure that consumers continue to have access to as wide a range of safe, affordable and nutritious food and drink products as ever before. FDF and its members will feed into any consultation relating to this.”
