Michigan Awards Appriss Health Contract for New Prescription Monitoring Solution

/EINPresswire.com/ -- LOUISVILLE, KY--(Marketwired - December 20, 2016) - Appriss Health, an Appriss Inc. company that provides the nation's most comprehensive platform for early identification, prevention and management of substance use disorders, announced that it has signed an agreement with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to help deter prescription drug abuse in the state. The agreement, involving the adoption of Appriss' prescription monitoring program (PMP) solution, PMP AWARxE, is part of the initiative described in Governor Rick Snyder's Prescription Drug & Opioid Task Force. The partnership, first announced on October 2, 2016, will replace the current in-house Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) and provide access to inter-state data sharing via PMP InterConnect and integration of PMP data within the clinician's electronic health record and pharmacy dispensing systems via Appriss Health's PMP Gateway.

Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMPs) are state-run programs that track the distribution of narcotics and other prescriptions for federally controlled substances. Appriss Health's PMP platform, PMP AWARxE, provides access to mandatory pharmacy reporting and offers secure accessibility to data across state lines.

"The initial focus will be on replacing the current MAPS with Appriss Health's PMP AWARxE solution. The replacement is long overdue, and we are excited about moving to a platform that will provide a much more robust user experience and functionality for our prescribers and pharmacists," said Shelly Edgerton, Director of LARA. "With the new platform in place, we can focus our attention on enabling integration of MAPS data within the clinician's workflow. Making PMP data readily available at the point-of-care reduces the time it takes to access MAPS and allows clinicians to spend additional time with their patients."

"The entire country has been seeing a significant increase in opioid addiction and opioid overdose-related deaths," said Rob Cohen, President of Appriss Health. "Governor Snyder has taken a leadership stance to tackle the opioid epidemic head-on, and Appriss Health is honored to partner with Michigan to help further his initiatives."

Michigan joins over 30 other states and municipalities in adopting an Appriss Health prescription monitoring platform.
