Lansing—Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Jamie Clover Adams is leading her first food and agriculture trade mission to China this week. The goal of the mission is to introduce Michigan companies to the ever growing and expanding Chinese market. The trade mission provides companies a firsthand opportunity to see the Chinese market and meet with potential Chinese buyers.
Michigan companies participating in the first ever food and agriculture trade mission include Atwater Brewery, Detroit; Cherry Central Cooperative, Traverse City; Cherry Marketing Institute, DeWitt; Graceland Fruit Inc., Frankfort; Old World Style Almonds, Beverly Hills; Nirvana Tea, Southfield; Shoreline Fruit, Traverse City; and Michigan Blueberry Growers/Naturipe, Grand Junction.
As part of the mission taking place November 8-14, the companies will travel to Shanghai and Shenzhen where they will have the opportunity to visit the USA Pavilion at the Food and Hotel China (FHC) Show, visit retail establishments in the market, and be briefed about the Chinese market from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials in China.
“Michigan exports to China continue to increase, and missions such as this provide even greater opportunities to expand Michigan exports by introducing companies to Chinese buyers,” said Director Clover Adams. “Exporting not only provides additional markets for the companies to sell their products, but also can lead to greater investment back at home as businesses expand to meet the increasing demand.”
