Local Jason Foundation Affiliate, Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, Helps Fight Youth Suicide

In the United States:
- Suicide claims more than 5,200 young lives each year.
- Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 24.
- Among high school students, 17.7 percent have considered suicide, 14.6 percent have formulated a plan for how they would take their own lives, and 8.6 percent have attempted suicide.
- Nearly 157,000 youth between the ages of 10 and 24 have been treated in emergency rooms for injuries that were self-inflicted.
World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10, 2016. On this day, individuals and organizations alike will be drawing attention to the problem of suicide and advocating for the prevention of this terrible tragedy. Suicide is a national health problem that is also one of the leading causes of preventable death in our nation.
The Jason Foundation has an affiliate office in Lemont, Ill., at Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center. The affiliate office serves as a hub where parents, teachers, guidance counselors, students, churches, and other community organizations can obtain educational materials and learn about training programs available through JFI. The Jason Foundation at Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center is the local resource for Jason Foundation materials and programs. All programs, services, and materials are available to the public at no cost.
In addition, Timberline Knolls, a leading residential treatment center for women and adolescent girls with eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, mood and co-occurring disorders, is sponsoring and has formed a walking team to participate in the Chicagoland "Out of Darkness Walk" benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The walk takes place on Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Grant Park, Chicago.
