North American Windpower reported that developer Deepwater Wind is ready for the final construction stage of the Block Island Wind Farm, America's first offshore wind farm. Installation will be completed this summer, and the project will be commissioned in the fall. "It's go time," said Jeffrey Grybowski, CEO of Deepwater Wind. "This is sure to be a momentous summer, not just for this project, but also for the start of a new American industry." Executives from Deepwater Wind are also discussing plans for a wind farm offshore Long Island that might be the country's largest offshore wind farm. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo supports the proposed project.
