Terrorism and Violence Needs Psychology Experts Across the Globe to Offer Insight & Guidance

New ISSPD President Vows to bring global experts to the forefront

“The world is in turmoil and people are scared...We need to address these core issues and start talking about the mental health of those who commit these serious acts.”
— Steven Huprich, PhD
SOLVANG, CA - CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, July 12, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- It may not be an undertaking that the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders, ISSPD, anticipated back in 1988; however, 28 years later the President-Elect, Steven Huprich, PhD, anticipates bringing the group’s global network of experts to the forefront. “The world is in turmoil and people are scared. It is easy to blame groups rather than individual personalities that can act on their own or influence others. We need to address these core issues and start talking about the mental health of those who commit these serious acts.”

The International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders, ISSPD, stimulates and supports scholarship, clinical experience, international collaboration and communication of research on all aspects of personality disorders including both diagnosis, course and treatment. Through its Regional and National organizations ISSPD encourages the initiative of education and research on personality disorders as well as collaborative efforts across countries and regions.

Upon assuming the ISSPD Presidency in October 2017, Huprich wants to see ISSPD being actively involved in the discussion of these global problems and showing others the relevancy of personality to understanding psychopathology that is so prevalent in the world. “I’m honored to be assuming this position. Today's approach to psychological treatment is entirely symptom driven, and is not focused on root causes of why a person is in distress.  By focusing upon the person who has the symptoms, and how his or her personality functioning operates, treatment can be effective for more people. It is imperative that we serve as source for law enforcement, government, and health professionals.”
