California ISO Declares Flex Alert for Southern California

/EINPresswire.com/ -- FOLSOM, CA --(Marketwired - June 19, 2016) - The California Independent System Operator (ISO) is declaring a Flex Alert for Southern California, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, June 20, due to high temperatures in the region.

Consumers are urged to conserve electricity especially during the late afternoon when air conditioners typically are at peak use. Consumers can help avoid power outages by turning off all unnecessary lights, using major appliances after 9 p.m. and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.

During times of high temperatures, demand on the power grid can be strained, as air conditioner use increases.

In addition, natural gas supply used as fuel for many power generators in the Los Angeles area may be tight during this heat event because of limited operations at Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility. The ISO has activated its summer preparedness plan for natural gas constraint concerns. Click here to view the plan.

24-Hour Ahead Outlook

Temperatures are forecast to be a high of 109 in some of Southern California.

Forecast peak demand for Monday is 45,316 megawatts.
