WHITTIER, CALIF., UNITED STATES, June 3, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- WHITTIER, Calif. – Author Meredith Oppenlander together with Illustrators Rick and Pam Chacon inspires young readers as she crafts and illustrates a story of determination, optimism, and adventure in her book, “Howard the Hippo and the Great Mountain Adventure.”— Richard Tate, co-owner and Acquisitions Editor, Tate Publishing
A tale of excitement, obstacles and never giving up, “Howard the Hippo and the Great Mountain Adventure” is a fun-filled children’s book about a hippo planning to climb a mountain, so he invites his hippo friend, along for the journey. Together, they encounter new experiences, words of encouragement and challenges along the way.
“The idea of writing books began gradually as I would read endless stories to my own children and to students in my classroom. The love of reading has always been one of my goals for my students. So, after I retired, I decided I would give it a try. I first started talking over ideas with my husband. The next step was writing stories in bed at night with my yellow pad in hand. I'd write, then the next day, I would cross out and rewrite. This would go on for a few days. Then it was time to type it onto the computer to delete and edit and write some more. The idea of using the name Howard came from the love of my uncle Howard. He had a contagious laugh and a friendly way about him that helped me create this character,” shares Oppenlander on the inspiration behind the book.
“Being happy with who you are and having a cheery outlook on life is one of the best-kept secrets of a well-loved life,” states Richard Tate, co-owner and Acquisitions Editor for Tate Publishing.
Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com.
Oppenlander is a retired elementary school teacher, living with her husband Bill, in Whittier Calif. They have two sons, William and Jonathan. It has been her dream to write a series of books. She used Howard as the name of the character in her stories in honor of her Uncle Howard, whom she has fond memories of.
