NewYork-Presbyterian Recognized by CIO Magazine as a CIO 100 Award Winner
NewYork-Presbyterian Honored for Its Mobile Electronic Medical Record NYP Care+
/EINPresswire.com/ -- NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - June 01, 2016) - CIO Magazine has named NewYork-Presbyterian a 2016 CIO 100 Award winner. The 29th annual awards program honors and recognizes the cutting-edge innovations of companies that demonstrate excellence and achievement in information technology.
NewYork-Presbyterian was recognized for its NYP Care+ platform, a completely mobile, fully functioning Electronic Medical Record (EMR). With NYP Care+, providers have the ability to see real-time patient information from the palm of their hand. Using their mobile device, they no longer need to go back and forth to the desktop in order to check vitals, lab results and other pieces of pertinent information, saving a significant amount of time. Providers are also able to show their patients their information in real-time at the bedside.
"Finding new and efficient ways to improve medical delivery and patient care is part of our core mission at NewYork-Presbyterian," said Daniel Barchi, chief information officer at NewYork-Presbyterian. "NYP Care+ improves the provider's workflow, eliminating the amount of steps they need to take in order to accomplish tasks. This translates into faster and more precise care for patients."
Launched in the fall of 2014, NYP Care+ is the outcome of the NewYork-Presbyterian Innovation Center's partnership with the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The Innovation Center worked with the Burn Center in order to identify specific challenges faced by clinicians and to prototype technology to address these needs. In the Burn Center, photographing patient wounds is a key part of the staff's workflow and each medical record, as pictures provide vital information about each patient's specific treatment and recovery. However, the process of uploading photos was extremely time-consuming and therefore costly, reducing productivity and the amount of time providers could spend with patients.
To solve this problem, NewYork-Presbyterian's Information Technology department collaborated with an outside vendor to design an EMR that would ensure efficiency and productivity. A mobile platform was designed and implemented for the Burn Unit, with custom details including a clinical image capture feature. The application instantly and securely integrates within the Hospital's existing EMR system, and is HIPAA compliant.
"Because of the real-time comprehensive functionality of NYP Care+, the platform has been extremely successful in the Burn Center," said Dr. Peter Fleischut, chief innovation officer at NewYork-Presbyterian. "This application was created with direct collaboration between IT and the clinical care team, allowing us to create a unique, efficient, and effective product. We are now looking at ways to utilize this same custom solution in other units across NewYork-Presbyterian."
The 2016 CIO 100 Awards will be presented at the CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony, scheduled for August 14 to 16, 2016 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
