Northeast Organizations Collaborate on Regional Offshore Wind Development Roadmap

Date: 5/1/2016

The Clean Energy States Alliance is assisting the Maine Governor's Energy Office, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources to develop a regional offshore wind roadmap. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to NYSERDA, this multi-state project seeks to quantify the potential cost reductions from developing a pipeline of offshore wind projects in the Northeast and to develop a regional roadmap of follow-up collaborative actions states can take.

The development of this regional roadmap will be aided by two preceding analyses: a regional market characterization report and a pipeline cost analysis report. The former will summarize the near and long-term regional offshore wind market opportunities in the Northeast based on the states' policy drivers, energy needs, and resource base. The analysis will feed into the pipeline cost analysis report, which will examine reductions in the delivered cost of energy resulting from economies of scale/large market size, a regional supply chain, and state and regional policies and support. See detailed information on the offshore wind development roadmap goals and teams.
