A new medical commentary published in the Journal of Cervical Cancer discusses the role of green tea as an ingredient in the formula of the all natural, antiviral oral supplement, Gene-Eden-VIR. (1) According to this commentary and many studies, green tea extracts have antitumor and antiproliferative effects. (2)

The commentary specifically mentions a study by Dr. Stephen K. Tyring, which noted that “numerous published studies have established the health benefits of tea consumption. These health benefits-most specifically those of green tea-have been touted for centuries; however, the bulk of the scientific investigations of green tea have only emerged within the past 30 years or so … catechins represent 60 to 80 percent of the total polyphenols in green tea … (and) … sinecatechins in human cervical carcinoma cell lines infected with human papillomavirus … inhibited cell growth in all four tumor cell lines by 50 percent.” (1) Additionally, “green tea catechins possess a wide range of pharmacological properties, including antiviral, anti-infective, and immunostimulatory properties … catechins have been shown to have antiproliferative properties in various cell lines and may have direct virucidal (virus killing) effect.” (3)

The CBCD therefore recommends that HPV infected individuals take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin. These natural antiviral products have a patented formula, which includes Camellia Sinesis Extract (green tea extract). Additionally, this formula was found to reduce HPV symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. (4)

The formula of Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD. The studies showed that the formula is effective against the HPV and other viruses.
