Joseph DuMouchelle Achieves $1.7 Million in March 11 Fine Jewels & Timepieces Auction

Large Diamonds, Rubies and Emeralds Garner Strong International Sales; Surpass Estimates

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - March 17, 2016) - Estate jewelry auction house Joseph DuMouchelle's March 11th Fine Jewels & Timepieces sale totaled more than $1.7 million USD and reached an almost 90 percent sale rate on the more than 300 included items. The house saw strong international competition through hundreds of phone bids as well as an impressive online turnout via the company's Invaluable outlet, with total online sales activity surpassing $571,695 and the highest single online bid reaching $91,240.

"These results prove that more and more buyers are comfortable with bidding and purchasing online, and the numbers continue to grow," said president Joseph DuMouchelle, who auctioneered the sale. "With every sale, it's becoming more and more important to have online bidding as part of our business model."

The auction was dominated by an impressive selection of rings with important central gemstones: Lot 117, a 19.14-carat heart-shaped diamond (GIA K color, VS1 clarity) achieved $350,000, exceeding its estimate by $150,000, while Lot 111, a 24-carat Colombian emerald and diamond ring sold for $81,250, surpassing the $30,000-$50,000 estimate. Lot 115, an Art Deco ring with a 7.06-carat emerald-cut diamond (GIA F color, VS1 clarity) fetched $162,500, and Lot 100, a 10.36-carat unheated Burmese ruby (with AGL report) ring brought $187,500. All prices include Buyer's Premium.
