The varicella zoster virus (VZV, also known as herpes zoster), is a herpes virus that normally causes chickenpox in childhood. Another study showed that “Risk factors for vascular disease were significantly increased in cases of HZ (herpes zoster) compared with controls… (and)…TIA and MI were increased in cases whose HZ occurred when they were younger than 40 years.” (2)

According to study authors, the bottom line is that “…conditions that predispose to vascular disease…are significantly more common in subjects with HZ.” (2)
