The 3 session sale will be held by Archives International Auctions in Fort Lee, N.J. of rare Chinese, Asian, U.S. & Worldwide Banknotes, Scripophily and Coins.

FORT LEE, NEW JERSEY, U.S.A., December 4, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- More than 1,900 lots of United States, Chinese and Worldwide Banknotes, Coins, Scripophily and security printing ephemera will be sold by Archives International Auctions in Fort Lee, N.J. on Friday, December 11th and Monday, December 14th, 2015.

“We are excited to offer Part 2 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky collection of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes as well as many outstanding consignments that include U.S. railroad bonds, obsolete banknotes, U.S. and worldwide banknotes, coins, and security printing ephemera from various consignors,” said Dr. Robert Schwartz, the president of Archives International Auctions.

Start times for the first two sessions will be 10:30 a.m. EST. For those unable to attend, online bidding will be offered on the AIA website: www.ArchivesInternational.com. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. A third session, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14th, will begin no earlier than 3 p.m. EST after the Chinese and Asian sale is concluded. It will be an internet-only sale, with all items pictured online, with no printed catalog.

Session I, slated for Friday, December 11th, will begin with worldwide banknotes, to include additional selections from the Arthur Matz collection of modern banknotes. The highlights include numerous lots of modern British Colonies, with multiple examples from Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, the East Caribbean States, Cyprus and numerous other countries. Highlights from the balance of the worldwide banknote session will include a lovely 1905 Danish West Indies $5 banknote; two different 1720 Banque Royal “John Law” notes; Haiti is highlighted by two complete sheets of ten specimen notes each of 1 and 2 Gourdes, Banque De La Republique D’Haiti, 1919 provisional issue banknotes by ABNC; a discovery 1898 Republica De Chile Provisional Issue note, possibly one of a kind; and a spectacular United Arab Emirates Currency Board specimen set consisting of five banknotes along with hundreds of desirable banknotes in single and group lots will be offered. We are also privileged to offer Part 1 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky reference collection of Russian banknotes, with many scarce and rare issues, including local and private issuers seldom seen at auction that will be included in all three sessions.

There are over 130 desirable lots in the sale of scripophily (the collecting of stocks and bonds), with highlights including a circa 1900 Massachusetts specimen stock certificate with a Santa Claus vignette; a Bodie Bluff Mining Company certificate dated 1879; over 60 railroad stocks and bonds, including a Columbus Zoological Company issued stock certificate dated 1903 and numerous other topics and desirable certificates.

A recent find of historic security printer advertising cards, some never seen before, including an American Bank Note Co., Cincinnati, ca.1860s, business card with allegorical Liberty vignette, are being offered in the first session, as are dozens of other interesting and rare security Printer items. Also to be offered will be U.S. colonial, obsolete, Confederate and fractional notes; with a U.S. FRN, $5, 1914, Fr.846 in PMG Gem Unc 65 as one of the highlight notes. The first session will end with a group of U.S. Liberty Loans, including a Liberty Loan bond of 1917, plus other desirable bonds.

Session II, on Monday, Dec. 14th beginning at 10:30 a.m., EST will feature Chinese and Asian banknotes, scripophily and coins, to include Part 2 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky family archives of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes. Also offered will be the “Shanghai Banker’s Collection” of rare Chinese banknotes that were given to an American missionary in 1947 before the Communist takeover. Included are many notes that are rarely seen in any form at auction, as well spectacular rarities and discovery notes.

Highlights from the Pogrebetsky collection will include a beautiful Imperial Bank of China 1898 Peking Taels issue; an attractive National Bank of China, 1921 issue rarity; a group of Bank of Territorial Development, Urga issues and other rare banknotes. Highlights from the Shanghai Banker’s collection include a 50 Yuan, 1921 China & South Sea Bank, Ltd. issued note that is unpriced in the SCWPM; numerous Bank of China rarities; and a significant Bank of Communications assortment, including scarce issues rarely seen at auction; an attractive and rare assortment of 1940 Provisional issues from the Farmers Bank of China and various private and local issues from both collections, all highly desirable.

Additional Chinese Banknote highlights will include an amazing 1920, Bank of Canton, Shanghai Branch issued banknote rarity discovered in Europe in an old estate sale as well as hundreds of desirable and rare Chinese and Asian banknotes that are rarely if ever offered at public auction.

Session III, scheduled for Monday, December 14th to begin no earlier than 3:00 p.m. is an internet only sale with all of the items pictured online, with no printed catalog.
