Wind Energy Permit Toolkit

Date: 11/18/2015

The distributed wind turbine market is challenged by permitting processes across jurisdictions, cumbersome interconnection procedures, and inconsistent zoning ordinances. Ordinances in some counties contain restrictions that prohibit the installation of small wind turbines or significantly discourage it by substantially increasing the time and costs required to obtain necessary zoning and construction permits. To address this issue, the Northwest Wind Resource and Action Center produced state-specific Wind Energy Permit Toolkits for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming and also posted free template files (in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word formats) for adapting the toolkit to other regions. The toolkits are based on industry best practices and incorporate input from regional stakeholders.
