Make: Electronics, second edition, New From Maker Media
/EINPresswire.com/ -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/21/15 -- Completely re-written with most photos and schematics replaced and updated, the second edition of Make: Electronics (September 2015; $34.99) -- Charles Platt's seminal beginner's guide to electronics -- continues the "learning through discovery" model for which it has been praised since the text was first published in 2009.
Single-bus breadboards are now used throughout, diagrams rather than photographs show circuit placement, internal circuit illustrations have been redrawn for clarity, and an expanded focus on Arduino as the most popular microcontroller distinguish this second edition.
Unchanged are the dry humor and clear explanations that have made this a best-selling book for six years and counting.
"This is a completely hands-on oriented book, which other writers don't really do," says author Charles Platt. "Every other book starts with theory. I start with putting a battery on your tongue and go from there."
It may also be the most honest book on emerging technology you've ever read! "This is the only book that I'm aware of that doesn't just say that the Arduino microcontroller is wonderful but instead, offers a very balanced summation of its pros and cons," Platt says. "Working with an Arduino is kind of hard; it's actually harder than everything else in the book."
Updates to Make: Electronics, second edition, include:
- A new dice simulation that can run two die instead of one
- A re-circuited burglar alarm with added features
- An easier-to-build reaction timer that can be calibrated precisely
- A sound synthesizer that can demo the effects of coils and capacitors
- A simpler, easier-to-build audio amplifier
- Additional timer circuits
- A brand new oscillator circuit
- Three completely new Arduino projects
"I think it's a lot easier to understand than the first book," Platt says. "Reader feedback was very helpful, resulting in at least 100 single-spaced pages of suggestions. All of that was very useful in making it a better book."
But everything that readers have loved from the best-selling first edition of Make: Electronics is there in the second edition. Get ready to burn things out and mess things up -- because that's how you learn!
