EDGEWATER, MARYLAND, UNITED STATES, June 10, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A new home for the NBIA is available in Edgewater, Maryland. No, that isn’t a new football team; NBIA stands for National Ballet Institute for the Arts. It will share the new building with the Creative and Performing Arts of South County (CPASC). The NBIA was founded in 1948 by Helen Moore, and is the oldest ballet company in Maryland. It is dedicated not only to performing for local communities, but also to holding classes for children, career professionals, and community members who simply like the idea of ballet as a pastime and exercise. They also train dance instructors. The Company performs both traditional and modern dance arrangements. It is supported, in part, by the local Arts Councils.

"Pamela Moore Maclean is the artistic director of NBIA. She was born in 1948 to Helen and William Moore. As might be expected, Pamela was immersed in ballet all of her life. She not only studied with her mother, but with other notable instructors. At the age of 15, she was a guest artist at the White House, and also performed with the National Ballet in Canada. She graduated from the Uni-versity of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Music. It was while she was at college she met and married John Patrick Maclean. The Macleans have two daughters, Kimmary and Elizabeth, and one granddaughter, Autumn. Pamela has a diploma fellow member of Cecchetti USA and the Cecchetti Council of America."

Unfortunately, an offered opportunity isn’t a free ride. The NBIA has made the commitment to raise the $40,000 that will be needed to construct the dance studio, props loft, and storage for costumes. This is a portion of the estimated $200,000 that will be needed to create the whole center, which will include a 1000 seat theater, rehearsal and practice rooms, as well as spaces for other sorts of art. The CPASC has already engaged teachers to teach classes in art, drama, music and more. Other organizations that are assisting with the endeavor include the Honey Hive, Wimsey Cove Framing and Art, Londontown Symphony Orchestra, Parlor Room Theatre, and Move and Grove. The Center will provide space and opportunity to introduce a broad variety of cultural experiences to Edgewater and surrounding communities.

You can help make it happen. Pamela Maclean has created an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to not only help raise money, but to also raise awareness of this magnificent art project. You can use the Indiegogo social networking tools to let your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media know about it. It will truly help if you can assist with getting the word out.

Monetary contributions can be as little as $5.00; but for $50.00 you will receive membership in NBIA, which grants members newsletters, event notifications and invitations to special events. Other rewards include two Nutcracker 2015 tickets – a $160 value for just $100, a pointe-shoe art piece created from slippers actually worn by a member of the National Ballet ($250.00), or at the apex of the rewards: attend a rehearsal of the Nutcracker, receive four tickets to the show, an NBIA membership and a pointe-shoe art piece in return for a contribution of $500.

Those are all great perks – particularly if you live in the Maryland area, or plan to be there in the near future; but that not the real value of this project. On the NBIA Indiegogo crowdfunding website, there is an adorable picture of a little girl doing a backward arch. She is wearing a pink leotard, pink gauzy skirt, and a pair of soft dance shoes. As she tips her head back so that it will touch the toes of her shoes, she wears a happy smile.
