Europe and Eurasia: Assistant Secretary Frank A. Rose to Travel to Middle East and Europe

Assistant Secretary for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance Frank A. Rose will travel to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Spain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Norway, and Austria from June 6-June 24, for meetings and external events on space security, missile defense, arms control, and other bilateral and multilateral security topics.

From June 8-11, Assistant Secretary Rose will travel to Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman for bilateral discussions on missile defense and security cooperation. Assistant Secretary Rose will meet with senior officials from each country at their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

From June 11-13, Assistant Secretary Rose will be in Barcelona, Spain, where he will deliver the keynote address at L'Association Aéronautique et Astronautique (3AF) International Missile Defense Conference on June 12. His remarks, “Missile Defense, Extended Deterrence, and the Future of America’s Alliances,” will highlight the role missile defense plays in U.S. strategic security cooperation with allies and partners.

From June 14-17, Assistant Secretary Rose will visit Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss issues of strategic importance including defense cooperation. In the UAE, he will also chair the first ever U.S.-UAE Space Security Dialogue.

From June 18-24, Assistant Secretary Rose will travel to Germany, Norway, and Austria for consultations on issues of mutual strategic interest. On June 19, Assistant Secretary Rose will meet with officials from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, and the Chancellor’s office to discuss issues central to Euro-Atlantic security. On June 20, Assistant Secretary Rose will travel to Oslo, Norway, to meet with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense to discuss a variety of strategic policy and arms control issues. Assistant Secretary Rose will conclude his trip June 23-24 with a series of meetings in Vienna with officials of the Provisional Technical Secretariat of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), with Ambassadors to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and with the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
