King Mohammed VI Launches A Small-Scale Fishing Unloading Site in Dakar

HM King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Macky Sall launched on Monday, May 25 ,  the building works of a small-scale fishing unloading site in Soumbedioune in Dakar.

Upon their arrival at the site, HM the King and President Macky Sall were greeted by Senegalese Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Oumar Gueye, Moroccan Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch, the Governor of Dakar, Delegate President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, Mostafa Terrab and CEO of Attijariwafabank Group, Mohamed El Kettani, as well as other figures.

Explanations were provided to HM the King and the Senegalese President on the project, part of South-South cooperation and meant to reflect friendship ties between the two countries.

The budget allocated for this project, funded by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, is estimated at 20 million dirhams.

The project, which is meant to improve the unloading of fish and the daily life of traditional fishermen, comprises ten entities: a fish market, a cold room, an ice factory, administrative facilities, a fish processing area, a retail market, mechanical workshops and pontoons for landing fish.

The Senegalese Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy will supervise the project management, the allocation of the facilities to fishermen and the maintenance of its components.

The site, which is located in the Bay of Soumebedioune, is home to 306 canoes and about 1,500 sailors.

The launch of this project comes within the framework of the working and friendship visit, which the Sovereign kicked off Wednesday in Senegal, the first step of an African tour that will take HM the King to Guinea-Bissau, Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon.
