SunPower Installs 3.6 MW of Solar at Sixteen Schools in Oakland
March 2015 - SunPower has installed solar power systems at sixteen schools in Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) in California. The 3.6 megawatts (MW) of solar, which will be installed on building rooftops and solar carports in school parking lots, are expected to significantly reduce the OUSD's annual energy costs over the next 25 years. In total, SunPower has installed solar power systems at 19 school districts in California, totaling more than 62 MW. In addition, the company is bringing solar-focused curriculum that emphasizes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) into the classroom in order to help prepare students for careers in the clean energy economy.
