Western Hemisphere: Assistant Secretary Roberta Jacobson Travels to Havana
Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta S. Jacobson will travel to Havana, Cuba for discussions with Josefina Vidal, Director General of the U.S. Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 15. Assistant Secretary Jacobson and Director General Vidal will continue discussions of re-establishing diplomatic relations and re-opening embassies.
The parties have been in communication since last meeting in February in Washington. It is in the interest of both countries to re-establish diplomatic relations and re-open embassies. A U.S. Embassy in Havana will allow the United States to more effectively promote our interests and values, and increase engagement with the Cuban people.
