Draft report on TTC approach open for public comment
EFSA and the World Health Organization (WHO) have published the draft conclusions and recommendations of their joint workshop on the Threshold of Toxicological Concern approach. The report is now open for public consultation until 29 March.
The aim of the three-day expert workshop – which was held in Brussels in December 2014 – was to gather views on how the TTC framework could be improved and expanded by updating/revising the Cramer classification scheme. The workshop was preceded by a stakeholder meeting attended by around 100 representatives of NGOs, industry, government, academia and consumer organisations.
EFSA and the WHO are engaged in a project to develop a globally harmonised decision tree for a tiered approach to the application of TTC in the risk assessment of chemicals.
All comments received during the public consultation will be considered and addressed by the expert group, and an event report will be published in late spring 2015.
