Shortage of cyber security skills in US workforce is key concern, says IT Governance

“Without a skilled workforce, businesses leave their corporate information vulnerable to all kinds of threats and attacks,” says Alan Calder, IT Governance.

BOISE, IDAHO, USA, February 2, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, the global provider of cyber security solutions, has said that the shortage of skilled cyber security professionals is a major concern for US businesses.

PBS recently reported that there are now more than 209,000 unfilled cyber security jobs in the US, which is an increase of 74% over the past five years.

“Without a skilled workforce, businesses leave their corporate information vulnerable to all kinds of threats and attacks,” says Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance. “This is a key concern for US businesses looking to protect themselves against cyber attacks and data breaches”.

Recent high-profile data breaches at Target, Home Depot, and JPMorgan Chase have prompted the US to look more closely at how companies handle sensitive customer data, as well as examine the patchwork of current data breach notification laws across the US.

Cyber security is closely related to the ability of companies to apply international best practice. They need people with the appropriate information security management skills in order to adopt a holistic approach to dealing with threats

ISO 27001 is increasingly recognized as the go-to information security standard for organizations to showcase their commitment to cyber security best practice. According to the ISO Survey 2013, certifications to the Standard in the US grew 36% in 2013.

In order to implement ISO 27001 successfully, organizations need people with the right skills which can be acquired through training and experience.
