Amazon to Power Its Data Center with 150-MW Wind Farm in Indiana
January 2015 - Amazon announced that its data center in Benton County, Indiana will be powered by wind energy under a 13-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Pattern Energy Group. The 150 megawatt (MW) project is anticipated to produce 500,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of wind power annually. Electricity generated from the new Amazon Web Services (AWS) Wind Farm will be used to supply both current and future AWS Cloud datacenters. The PPA will help Amazon to achieve its long-term goal of 100 percent renewable energy usage for the global AWS infrastructure footprint.
