DOE Completes 20-Year Solar Power Purchase for LLNL

January 2015 - The United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) has entered into an agreement with Whitethorn Solar for an on-site solar electrical generation system at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. The three megawatt (MW) ground-mounted Photovoltaic (PV) system is anticipated to generate 6,300 megawatt hours (MWh) per year and will be managed by Juwi Solar, who fully owns Whitethorn. Whitethorn will sell the generated solar power to the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) via a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with DOE/NNSA purchasing their power from WAPA. This is DOE/NNSA's largest solar power purchase from an on-site facility and the first in its western region.
