IBERDROLA has been selected as the European utility with the best corporate governance practices, according to the prestigious Ethical Boardroom publication, which recently announced its Corporate Governance Awards 2015 for Europe and Africa.

In an article published by Ethical Boardroom magazine, Ignacio Galán, chairman of IBERDROLA explains that "Ethics should be prominent in every aspect of society, from economics to politics, and above all in people", following the award of this honour.

Mr. Galán also stressed the need to inspire "the transformation of our society towards a more sustainable, inclusive and responsible model, in which people and ethical concerns lie at the heart of decisions".

The Chairman of IBERDROLA is convinced that good governance requires a constant effort to communicate corporate policies to all stakeholders, not just investors: “Corporate sustainability and responsibility should be embedded in every aspect of the company’s life.”

In awarding this prize, Ethical Boardroom is acknowledging IBERDROLA's leading role in its continued commitment to shareholders and ensuring the transparency of the information communicated to the market. “These awards highlight the importance of corporate governance in enabling business success and generating long-term value", explain the editors of the publication.

IBERDROLA’s Corporate Governance System, consistent with the Company’s commitment to creating long-term shareholder value and protect shareholders’ interests, has put in place key international market recommendations and the most advanced trends in this field.  The Group's corporate website, www.iberdrola.com, is a crucial tool in confirming its commitment to transparency and best practices. This was the rationale behind setting up the On-line Shareholders (OLA) system, an interactive system that provides a direct communication link with the company.

Commitment to ethics and good governance

IBERDROLA was listed as one of the most ethical companies in the world last year, according to the 2014 World’s Most Ethical Company ranking drawn up by the Ethisphere Institute, which acknowledges organisations that are committed to ethical leadership and behaviour at corporate level.

IBERDROLA was also selected last year by the World Finance publication as the Spanish company with the best corporate governance practices. 

The company also leads the IBEX 35 in terms of corporate governance, according to the study titled The influence of corporate governance on the reputation of Spanish listed companies, published in the Annual Report Corporate Communication and Management of Intangible Assets in Spain and Latin America, drawn up by Villafañe & Asociados.
