LANSING, MICH. - Michigan offers some of the richest food experiences anywhere. This fall, there are a variety of events that showcase the best food from the state. With the high diversity of Michigan agricultural crops, there are many opportunities to partake in culinary tourism experiences that celebrate the “Flavors of Pure Michigan.”

“Michigan’s agricultural bounty cultivates a wide variety of culinary tourism destinations across the state,” said Jamie Clover Adams, director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. “As I travel the state, I am delighted to discover a wide variety of opportunities for the public to take part in celebrating Michigan’s food and culinary adventures.”

As summer fades and the fall harvest season takes over, celebrate Michigan’s food and agriculture with a wide range of special events.  From Kent Harvest Trails to Brighton’s Farm to Table Experience, there are many different opportunities available in the month of September. For more information and a list of events, visit www.michiganwines.com/flavors.

September is also a peak month for local produce. Farmers markets and farm stands are rich with healthy, edible treasures just waiting to be savored. Visit www.michiganfarmfun.com to view and download the 2014 Agri-Tourism Directory, with a handy “availability calendar” to discover what’s in season.

For a trip that will delight your palate, consider some destinations on the Foodie Tours listed at www.michigan.org/foodie-tours. Or travel one of the beer, wine and spirits trails that have recently been added under www.michigan.org/wine-beer-trails.
