Nation's Largest Offshore Wind Energy Area Is Available for Commercial Development

On June 17, U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced that more than 742,000 acres off the Massachusetts shore will be available for commercial wind energy leasing. The proposed area is the largest in federal waters and will nearly double the federal offshore acreage available for commercial-scale wind energy projects. The announcement was made as part of President Obama's Climate Action Plan to create American jobs, develop domestic clean energy resources, and reduce carbon pollution.
