Energy Efficient Buildings on NREL Campus to be Celebrated on June 4

Monday, June 2, 2014

The Energy Department’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has recently completed construction of several award-winning, energy efficient buildings on its campus in Golden, Colo. On June 4, leaders from NREL and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) will recognize and celebrate NREL’s three latest LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum buildings – the Energy Systems Integration Facility, the NREL Café and the South Site Entrance Building – with a USGBC Plaque Ceremony. The Platinum certification is the highest level available in the USGBC’s LEED® certification program.

The ceremony will be followed by a workshop, which will feature NREL, USGBC and other project partners describing their experiences and giving recommendations so that these projects can serve as models for others. The workshop will provide an opportunity for building owners, developers and other industry professionals to learn how they can benefit from incorporating energy efficiency into their construction.

The event will conclude with a walking tour of NREL’s sustainable campus and energy efficient buildings.

Media are invited to attend any or all portions of the event, please allow time for security check-in. The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. and the event will conclude by noon.

WHAT: NREL Campus Efficiency Celebration, Workshop and Tour WHEN: Wednesday, June 4, 8 a.m. to noon. WHERE: National Renewable Energy Laboratory; 15013 Denver West Parkway, Golden, CO, 80401

Media interested in attending should RSVP in advance to David Glickson via email or by calling 303-275-4097.

NREL is the U.S. Department of Energy's primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. NREL is operated for DOE by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC.
