MDARD Issues Statewide Stop Sale Order for Ohio Mulch Company for Short Measure Soil bags

LANSING, MI – Today, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) issued a Stop-Use and Stop-Removal Order for the following soil products produced by Ohio Mulch of Columbus, Ohio after finding the products did not comply with the Michigan Weights and Measures Act, 1964 Public Act 283.
“We’ve now checked over 50 bags of soil products produced by Ohio Mulch taken from stores across the state with only five containing the declared net content and with the vast majority being grossly short,” said Jamie Clover Adams, MDARD director. “Ohio Mulch is selling a product that doesn’t contain the amount of soil claimed on the bag. The Stop-Use and Stop-Removal orders ensure Michigan consumers and businesses alike are getting what they pay for and ensures a fair marketplace.”
MDARD has determined that soil manufactured, packaged, and/or distributed by Ohio Mulch prior to May 16, 2014 does not contain the amount of product represented on the label. The Stop-Use and Stop-Removal order prohibiting the sale, offering for sale, or use of the below listed soil products, packaged and/or distributed by Ohio Mulch. These products should no longer be used, immediately be removed from store shelves or other product displays, and no longer offered for sale.
The Stop-Use and Stop-Removal order prohibit the sale, offering for sale the following Ohio Mulch soil products:
Green Envy Garden Soil #1711, 1 cubic foot Green Envy Potting Soil #1731, 1 cubic foot
